不该忘掉的英语教学原则

偶尔翻到了2003年在英国学习时,老师让我们做的一个小功课,就是把当时国内高中英语教材的写作任务按照活动的方式重新组织,从而使得作文写作不那么机械、枯燥、乏味。当时做的时候觉得这个作业很傻,自己小组也做的很差,现在看来尽管也不是很好,但这里透露的理念还是很好的。我们对学生作文的训练似乎也该以这样的理念来做才好,关键是这样做其实并不费时费事,我们怎么总是忘了呢?(随便复制了两个当时的所谓作业)
Activity 2

 

This activity is based on Lesson 96, Unit 24, SEFC 1B.

 

I.  The original material

 

    You have just received a letter from a friend, she/ he has just moved to the country and is interested in growing some vegetables in the garden. Reply to the letter and give some general advice to your friend. Some of these ideas may help 

  1. examine soil/ ask neighbours/ which plants grow best.
  2. sow seed/ correct time of year/ ask neighbours about the weather.
  3. make a plan/ not grow plants in the same place/ year after year.
  4. remove weeds/ plants grow taller.
  5. turn the soil over with a fork/ sow seeds.

      Begin like this: thank you for your letter. I am sending you a few pieces of  advice about gardening. First….

 

 

II.  Adaptation

 

1. Analysing writing activity                 

 

 Audience:  other students

          Aim:  information

       Genre:  expositive

         Level:  lower to intermediate

 

2. Instructions for the activity

 

Step 1. Divide students into pairs.

Step 2. Ask each pair to write down one step they know about Vegetable

            growing on a sticker marked with number

Step 3. Stick all the answers to the wall.

Step 4. Classify each step they wrote and put them into the next 7 stages.

    (The six stages are:

    • examining soil
    • sowing seed
    • making a  plan
    • removing weeds
    • turning the soil  over with a fork
    • selecting seeds )

Step 5. Ask students to reorder the stages in a logical way  in pair.

Step 6. Decide which pair’s order is the best.

Step 7. Ask the pair to work out an article according to the best order.

Step 8. Ask students to appreciate and peer correct the next pair’s article.

 

Activity 4

 

This activity is based on Lesson 52, Unit 13, SEFC 2B.

 

I. The original material

 

 

Work in groups of four. You are going to write a summary of the life of Albert Einstein. Each of you can write one part:

  1. His early studies
  2. His research
  3. His success
  4. His time in the USA

Read the passage in Lesson 50 and 51 again. You can use the notes which you made in Lesson 50. You may also add some information.

 

II.  Adaptation

 

1. Analysing writing activity                 

 

 Audience:  teachers and students

          Aim:  a summary of the life of Albert Einstein

      Genre:  report

        Level:  intermediate to upper mediate

 

2. Instructions for the activity

 

Step 1. Divide students into groups.

Step 2. Each group has a name of a famous person who is very familiar to    

             students.

Step 3. Ask each group to describe the famous person with five sentences

             with linking words.

Step 4. Stick the notes of all groups on the wall or the blackboard and the

            names of the famous people in another piece of paper on the wall or

            the blackboard in a rumbled order.

Step 5. Match the description of all groups with the names.

Step 6. Check.
